You’re knee hurts when you go up or down stairs. You can’t walk far because of pain and walking on uneven ground is difficult. Your knee feels stiff, especially of a morning. Sometimes your knee clicks, creaks or grates. You can’t sleep at night because your knee aches.
There are lots of different causes of knee pain. Some things you may have heard are:
- Knee cap (patella) issues
- Arthritis
- Torn meniscus or cartilage
- Cruciate or other ligament tears
- Bursitis
Sometimes your pain can be caused by muscle weakness.
Old age – even though both knees are the same age and you only have pain in one!
Your back can even cause your knee pain.
Don’t be scared by scan results and rushing off to surgery. One study found that 89% of 20 -60 year olds , with NO knee pain or symptoms, had degenerative changes of their meniscus – that is, wear and tear of their cartilage.
I will listen to you and take a detailed history before doing a full assessment to get to the real cause of your problem. With the right diagnosis you can then receive the right treatment to get you back to living the life you want.
Treatment involves “hands on” work to get your movement back and ease your pain. There will also be some exercises specific to your problem and maybe some taping or dry needling if you are comfortable with it.
